Drama as NIPOST Workers Join the Ongoing Strike

Workers of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) in Kaduna have joined the ongoing  three-day nationwide warning strike to press for improved working and retirement conditions.

The workers, under the aegis of the National Union of Postal and Telecommunication Employees (NUPTE),
were protesting over non promotion, delay in payment of allowances and non remittance of deductions into the National Housing Fund.

At the office located on Yakubu Gowon road, the workers were seeing discussing the issue in groups while officials of the union shut the entrance to the NIPOST building to prevent members from going in.
Abdlkareem Akande, the Kaduna State Chairman of NUPTE told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the strike was in line with the resolution of the national body and was meant to accelerate compliance to their
demands.

Akande said all the issues in contention had been discussed and agreed by the union with NIPOST management, but that nothing had been done to implement any of them. "We issued a 21-day and 14-day ultimatum, respectively, on these issues a few months ago and management did not address them."
He said all activities were suspended in all the NIPOST offices in the state, assuring that the union would decide on the next line of action at the end of the warning strike
