Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Saturday commiserated with the families of the victims of the boat mishap which occurred in Malili Village, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, the governor said that it was very disheartening for such a tragedy to befall the state at a time when the government was trying to promote the citizens’ living standards.
Mr. Aliyu urged those providing water transportation services to be more careful, particularly during the raining season when the water level was high.
He said that the state emergency management agency had since deployed its officials to the scene of the accident, to ascertain the extent of losses incurred, with a view to compensating the families of the victims.
Mr. Aliyu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of all those affected by the tragedy and prayed that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss while granting the souls of the departed eternal rest.
