7 PHCN Staff Arrested Over Cable Theft

No fewer than seven members of staff of Power Holdings Company of Nigeria (PHCN) are currently cooling their heels at the criminal investigation department of Katsina State police command for allegedly vandalising a transformer and carting away its cable.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising a transformer at the Katsina Water Board area, a high brow area in Katsina municipal, housing influential personalities in the state.

Sources said that the transformer was earlier vandalised, but residents rallied efforts and installed the vandalised cables only for the vandals to strike again, carting away the cables and hence interrupting power supply.

Our sources said fingers were pointed at the PHCN staffers whom many residents accused of either being those behind the theft, or acting as accomplice to the theft.

Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Police command, DSP Aminu Abubabakr Sadik said “some ad hoc staff of PHCN had been arrested in connection with transformer cable theft.”

He said “it was realized that there is complicity from officials of PHCN so the adhoc staffs were arrested including the receiver of the stolen cable. We found some cables with them and investigation is on
going.”
