Ex-Soldier Landed in Prison for Air Condition Theft

An Abuja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, sentenced one Saifullahi Mohammed, 27, a dismissed soldier of Gowon Barrack, Asokoro, to two months imprisonment for stealing an air conditioner belonging to one Saudatu Attahiru. Senior Magistrate Chukwu Emeka sentenced Mohammed to two months imprisonment without option of fine.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Sani Yusuf, told the court that one Saudatu Attahiru, of Mambilat Barracks Extension Block, Abuja, reported the case on July 27. 

Sani said that the case was reported to the Mabushi Police Divisional Headquarters, Abuja.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused was alleged to have stolen her air conditioner, valued at N65,000.

He said that the convict allegedly confessed to the offence and stated that he sold it at the rate of N19,000, but it was later recovered.

Sani said the offence contravened the Provisions of Section 389 of the Penal Code Law.

He pleaded guilty to the offence. “My lord, I served in the Nigerian Army, please have mercy on me,’’ he told the court.
